Empowering Adults with Down Syndrome: What’s Ahead for GiGi’s Achievers Summer 2025

At GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville, our mission is rooted in the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. This summer, we’re thrilled to continue our commitment to lifelong learning and growth by offering not just one—but two sessions of GiGi’s Achievers! This FREE innovative program is part of our Adult Education & Career Development initiative and is designed specifically for adults with Down syndrome who are ready to take the next step in their personal and professional journeys.

What is GiGi’s Achievers?

GiGi’s Achievers is a structured and enriching program that supports adults with Down syndrome in continuing their education beyond the classroom. Built on the core values of empowerment, inclusion, and purpose, this program emphasizes continued learning through hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and community exploration. The curriculum is intentionally designed to foster growth in communication, self-awareness, independence, wellness, and community involvement—all essential skills for a confident and capable adult life.

This summer’s sessions will be led by doctoral students in Occupational Therapy from Belmont University, participating through their Embedded Faculty Fieldwork model. These volunteers bring both heart and expertise to the program, helping guide participants through meaningful activities that support independence, confidence, and real-world skills. We’re proud to offer this high-quality, therapist-informed programming completely free of charge, thanks to partnerships like this one that make GiGi’s Nashville so special.

Achievers isn’t just a program; it’s a community. It’s where friendships grow, self-confidence flourishes, and participants gain the tools they need to advocate for themselves and others. Every session is an opportunity for Achievers to strengthen their sense of identity and explore their unique interests in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Built by Our Community, for Our Community

What makes GiGi’s Achievers especially meaningful is the way it has been shaped. The content and structure of the program are directly influenced by feedback from families, caregivers, and the participants themselves. We’ve listened closely to what our local Down syndrome community wants—and needs—so that we can ensure the program is relevant, responsive, and respectful of each person’s individual journey.

Families told us they wanted continued education and real-world experiences. Participants asked for more opportunities to connect with peers and practice new skills in practical ways. The result? A dynamic and impactful program where adults with Down syndrome can feel challenged, supported, and proud of their progress.

What’s Happening This Summer?

We understand that summer is a busy time for families, which is why we’re offering two different weekly sessions of GiGi’s Achievers. Whether mornings or afternoons work better for your schedule, there’s a place for everyone at the Playhouse this summer.

Green Team

  • When: Mondays · 10:00 AM–1:00 PM
  • Dates: June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 & July 7, 14, 21, 28

Orange Team

  • When: Wednesdays · 3:00–6:00 PM
  • Dates: June 4, 11, 18, 25 & July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Both sessions will offer the same great curriculum, activities, and opportunities for learning and growth. Participants can expect weekly themes and projects, guest speakers, skill-building games, social-emotional development activities, and real-world application of what they’ve learned. Whether it’s creating a healthy meal plan, practicing a mock job interview, or participating in a community service project, our Achievers will be engaged in meaningful and memorable experiences all summer long.

Why Join GiGi’s Achievers?

For returning participants—those who have already taken part in our Adult Education & Career Development programs—Achievers offers the perfect way to maintain connections, continue developing independence, and stay engaged with peers throughout the summer.

For new participants and families, Achievers is an ideal chance to explore what our adult programming is all about. This includes individuals who currently attend other GiGi’s programs but haven’t tried Adult Education yet, or young adults who are still receiving school services during the academic year and are curious about what comes next. This summer is a great opportunity to try it out in a short-term, flexible, and supportive setting!

Our goal is to help each participant build confidence and gain valuable skills that extend far beyond the Playhouse. Whether someone is working toward a job, hoping to live more independently, or simply looking for a fun and enriching way to spend the summer, Achievers meets each individual where they are and encourages them to keep growing.

Join the Movement of Acceptance and Achievement

At GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville, we don’t just believe in potential – we invest in it, and GiGi’s Achievers is one of the many ways we’re making that investment count. Every smile, every milestone, every high five is a reminder that when we give individuals with Down syndrome the tools and opportunities they need, they thrive.

As we gear up for Summer 2025, we invite you to be part of this journey. Whether you’re signing up a loved one, volunteering your time, or simply helping spread the word, you’re contributing to a future where more adults with Down syndrome are confident, capable, and celebrated for who they are.

Let’s make this summer one of growth, discovery, and unforgettable moments—for every Achiever at GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville. If you have any questions, reach out to Emily Sheridan at esheridan@gigisplayhouse.org. We’re happy to help you decide if GiGi’s Achievers is the right fit for your summer!
