Volunteer Spotlight – What do you like about volunteering, Haley?

Haley and is an occupational therapy student at UW-Milwaukee. She has been volunteering with GiGi’s Playhouse over the past few years at the Hoffman Estates and Milwaukee locations as the program leader for Friends, Fun, & Fitness and Teen Tastic.  She states that she loves the safe, welcoming environment for individuals with Down syndrome at GiGi’s that not only accepts participants for who they are but celebrates them. She appreciates the various types of programming and the fact that programs are free so that they are accessible for families. “Since my first experience in working with people that have disabilities at a therapeutic recreation summer camp in 2014 and subsequent experiences since I’ve realized my natural calling in life is to work with people with various abilities to empower, advocate, and uplift them in a society that does not always understand who they are. I also want to create my own non-profit yoga and dance organization one day for individuals with disabilities!” Haley also enjoys yoga, volleyball, and spending time with family and friends.
