It happened at GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough in 2018…

2018 saw many great things happen at GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough. Our participants flourished and made great strides in achieving their best of all in everything they did. These are just a few of those stories…

Caryn and Chris have been interning at the Playhouse for over three years. Among their responsibilities is to be an advocate for themselves, their friends and the organization. In October, they sat down and went LIVE on Facebook to discuss what it is like to live #GenerationG. During that broadcast they also answered questions about what it is like to have Down syndrome. (Hint: they have great lives!)

As a result of that 17-minute broadcast, Caryn and Chris developed greater confidence. They wanted to reach MORE people across the internet and tell them about GiGi’s Playhouse and themselves. GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough proudly broadcasts “Live with Caryn and Chris” the first Thursday of every month on Facebook; a format for our interns to talk about exciting upcoming events at the Playhouse and to answer your questions. Be sure to tune in and submit your questions!

Students have made great progress in our one-on-one literacy, math and speech programs. Sixteen-year-old Tobi participated in the literacy program for the first time during the fall session. By the end of his 10 weeks, Tobi was “checking out” books from the GiGi’s Playhouse library to take home to read and applying his new skills to his everyday life.

“He wanted to watch a movie on Netflix and he knew to search letter by letter by copying the words on the box to find the movie he wanted. He was doing it on his own!” said his mom Andrea.

We have continued to be surrounded by love and generosity from organizations and businesses in our surrounding community. Volunteers from TEK Systems in Bridgewater continue to visit the Playhouse twice a month to run the program TEAM. Due to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough our participants and their families enjoyed the Hillsborough Fair and a Somerset Patriots game at no charge; and they continue to fund the Family Financial Support Program. Businesses like Pinnacle Health (formerly HRC Fitness) and Super Sundaes continue to support us through community fundraisers.

As we approach our 4th anniversary in early 2019, the Board and Staff at GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough know that things can only get better!
