“Dinner’s At Michelle’s!”

“Dinner’s At Michelle’s!”

Regardless of the times, food never fails to bring people together, and neither does GiGi’s Playhouse. I “attended” the GiGi’s At Home Kitchen Adult program this week and cooked with people from all across the country (what?! seriously, amazing).

Class was focused on knife skills while making beef stew (it looked sooooo good). Michelle, the instructor, along with her daughter taught us names of knives and cuts. My personal favorite cut was called the squid. They also showed us this amazing tool called “no-cut gloves.” They protect your hand from the blade. I don’t care who you are, or how old you are, you need these things!

Seriously though, I love when we can acquire tools that help us gain independence. These knife cuts and products make it possible to cook more safely and independently, and this is so beneficial for people with Down syndrome (as well as all of us)!

As Michelle was cooking, someone yelled, “Dinner’s at Michelle’s house tonight!” Obviously, we weren’t all going to drive to Annapolis to eat dinner at her dining room table in a pandemic, but it made us feel like we were together. In different states, time zones, and even stages of life, we were all eating the same awesome beef stew. GiGi’s At Home makes this togetherness possible. We get to continue learning, growing, and playing together with more friends than we ever have before.
