Tell us about yourself!
My name is Kaylin, and I have been volunteering with GiGi’s Playhouse for three years now. My youngest brother has Down syndrome, and he has inspired me to be the best person I can be. When I went to college, I realized I needed to get involved with GiGi’s!
What’s your favorite part about volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse?
I love volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse because I am surrounded by incredible individuals who have such a love for life. They teach me so much about being a better person, and it brings me so much joy!
What roles, tasks, or programs do you help with at GiGi’s Playhouse?
I am a volunteer for Teen Tastic and have also helped with GiGi’s Kitchen, Fantastic Friends, and GiGiFIT. I enjoy all of the special events that GiGi’s puts on or participates in, like the New Year’s Eve Celebration and Giving Hearts Day! I also love hanging out in the gym with all of the amazing participants and playing fun games!
Do you have a favorite or memorable moment from volunteering at GiGi’s?
My favorite memory at GiGi’s has to be participating in the Gala last year. It was Derby For Down Syndrome, and I was able to get my sorority involved by raising money and volunteering at the event. Seeing all of the support given by individuals in the community for such an incredible population of people was very heartwarming and definitely made a lasting impact on my life.
How has volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse impacted you personally?
GiGi’s Playhouse has had an immense impact on me. The Playhouse itself has given me a place where I can go to learn and grow as an individual, but the participants are the most impactful. I have been able to learn daily life skills like problem-solving and communication from them. Volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse Fargo has been one of the best things I’ve ever been involved in. I am so lucky to be part of such an amazing program surrounded by incredible individuals.
