February at the Playhouse

Happy February! We have a full month of programs and fun activities planned this month! Read on for a snapshot of what’s happening this month and to RSVP.

Programs

LMNOP (0-3 year olds)

Language Music N’ Our Peeps (LMNOP) is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication while using music and language-based activities.

Playhouse Pals (5-8 year olds)

Supports the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting. This program also supports gross motor skills through active games, as well as fine motor skills & self-help skills.

Kids Club (8-12 year olds)

Supports the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting. This program will also support gross motor skills through active games, fine motor and self-help skills through meal/snack preparation and activities.

Teen Tastic (13-17 year olds)

Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. Skill development includes understanding compromise, turn-taking and problem-solving abilities.

Art Explosion: Adventures in Soul Journaling (18 and up)

Provides hands-on experience with multiple art media and provides an outlet for individuals with Down syndrome to express themselves, build confidence and socialize with peers.

Fantastic Friends (18 and up)

A fun purposeful & social gathering for adults with Down syndrome, their peers and the community. Supports the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting. Recommended for Adults 18+.

Music in Motion (18 and up)

Tap into your inner rock star where every voice shines!  This therapeutic use of music and movement builds self-confidence and that strengthens social, communication and motor skills.

Fantastic Friends: Eating with Brandon (18 and up)

Brandon Movitz, Fitness and Nutrition Specialist, is coming to work with our adults on making healthier eating choices so they can feel better and live a healthy lifestyle. Brandon will focus on a different topic and use hands on learning to teach our adults more about nutrition.

GiGiFIT Adult (18 and up)

Introduces the key movements of foundational, hip strengthening, and vestibular/balance exercises, making them successful to implement and practice at any stage of life! Focuses on improving areas of fitness through activities in strength, endurance, joint stability, balance, movement control and more. GiGiFIT promotes wellness through nutrition, pushing through barriers and building self-confidence. The Winter 2020 session begins January 20 and concludes March 25.

GiGiFIT Adult meets on Monday & Wednesday evenings at 6pm. Registration is now closed- Applications will open in April for the Spring/Summer session.

Open Play (ALL ages welcome)

Promotes positive beginnings for new families, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends while allowing families to network and support one another. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to all families of all ages.

Programs Coming Soon!

GiGiFIT Teen (13-17 year olds)

GiGiFIT Teen introduces the key movements of foundational exercises, hip strengthening exercises, and vestibular/balance exercises. The goal of this program is to: 

  • Provide individuals with Down syndrome with a road map for purposeful, specific, and successful movement across their lifetime! 
  • Improve Physical Therapy Goals: Strength, Endurance, Joint Stability, Balance, Coordination, Sequencing, Independent Practice, Lifetime of Participation 
  • Improve Fitness: Strength, Endurance, Power, Stamina 
  • Improve Balance and Coordination: Joint Stability, Posture, Movement Control 

The Winter 2020 session begins February 11 and concludes March 26. GiGiFIT Teen will meet on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm.

GiGiFIT You & I (Newborn-Infant)

GiGiFIT You & I introduces the concepts of GiGiFIT Adult and Infant to parents and caregivers of infants with Down syndrome. The goals of this program are to: 

  • Build relationships and friendships with peers  parents and babies! 
  • Improve Joint stability, Strength, Endurance, Balance, Coordination, Connection to Your Baby 
  • Introduce the “Basic Movements” of the PT activities that you will see in GiGiFIT Infant 
  • Provide purposeful activity for Mom/Dad/Caregiver 
  • Foster the relationship between caregiver and baby through movement

The Winter 2020 session begins February 15 and concludes March 28. GiGiFIT You & I will meet on Saturday mornings at 9am.
