Brian’s Great Life – 2024 Gala Speech

Hi, My name is Brian Rogala, I am 36 years old and I have Down syndrome. There are a few important things that I think you need to know about me.

I have a GREAT life!

Brian and Christine Dancing at the Gala

I have a beautiful girlfriend named Christine who I have been dating for 8 years! Christine and I met and had our first date at a GiGi’s gala! We have been through a lot together and I love her very much, I hope to marry her one day.

I also have an amazing family who love me very much. They are the most important people to me. I am an awesome uncle and love watching my niece and can’t wait for the new baby to come. My mom does a lot for me, making sure I get to all of my activities on time, and I am a very busy guy. My Dad is my hero, I love and miss him. I know he would be super proud of me tonight.

I have a job working at Gerry’s Café in Arlington Heights, you should come visit me some time. I work really hard, I want to learn more about the bakery side of things one day. I have big goals for my future.

I have a lot of really great friends. My friend Shannon works with me at the playhouse and is my partner in crime. 😊 We have a lot of fun at programs at GiGi’s Playhouse and have made a lot of friends. I help plan our adult programs here so we have a good place to hang out and fun things to do like Karaoke, Club nights, cooking and more.

Down syndrome means we have some disabilities but we are there for each other and help each other out. But we are also capable of doing a lot of things! I have such a great life and wouldn’t change anything about myself except to maybe be a better cook.

I hope you can help us to change the way the world sees Down syndrome so we can help more kids grow up to be awesome adults like me and so I always have a place to go be with my friends and learn new things.
