LSVT LOUD – A New Form of Speech Therapy

Join Leigh Cohen, M.S. CCC-SLP and a team of graduate student clinicians from Northwestern University on Friday, March 14th as they provide an in-depth overview of LSVT LOUD for kids.

What is LSVT LOUD?
Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) is an evidence-based speech therapy originally designed for adults with Parkinson’s disease. Now adapted for pediatric populations, LSVT LOUD for Kids helps children with Down syndrome improve speech clarity, vocal loudness, and overall communication skills. It focuses on teaching kids to use a stronger voice in a fun and engaging way, helping them communicate more confidently in daily life.

Key Benefits
– Enhances Speech Intelligibility & Vocal Loudness – Helps children speak louder and clearer, making them more easily understood.
– Builds Oral Motor Strength – Strengthens lips, tongue, and jaw for better articulation and speech control.
– Promotes Functional & Social Communication – Encourages effective speech use in real-world settings, fostering confidence and social engagement.
– Supports Neuroplasticity & Long-Term Gains – Intensive, high-effort practice retrains brain pathways for sustained speech improvements.
– Family-Centered Approach – Parents receive training to reinforce therapy at home, maximizing long-term success.

Research-Backed Success
Studies show LSVT LOUD leads to measurable improvements in speech clarity, volume, and communication. Children with Down syndrome complete the full treatment protocol successfully, with parents reporting high satisfaction and meaningful gains.
