What can YOU do for DSAM?

October is our time to rise and shine! While we get to celebrate and shout the worth of our friends and family members all year long, October is a great opportunity to get our communities involved too! Down Syndrome Awareness Month has always been our chance to teach people about the most common chromosomal condition in the country! The next step after awareness is to take action and create a culture of acceptance.

What can you do this October to celebrate Down syndrome and spread a message of acceptance?

  1. Have your company host a Jeans for Genes day! Employees can donate money to be able to wear jeans on a designated day!
  2. Dimes for Down syndrome. Help raise money for your favorite Down syndrome organization by collecting change for the entire month of October. Every bit helps to support our free programs and allows us to expand our message of #GenerationG.
  3. Join us on October 1st at Backyard Grill in Highland Park and on October 20th at City BBQ. Enjoy great food and mention GiGi’s Playhouse. A portion of your bill will be donated to the playhouse.
  4. Become a monthly donor. Did you know that you can sign up to donate to GiGi’s automatically each month? For just $21 a month you provide one year of 1:1 literacy tutoring to a participant, which can be life-changing. Sign up here: https://connect.clickandpledge.com/w/Form/16ce1c4f-ea74-4dbe-9a77-e3cf6493cff0.
  5. Shop Amazon Smile! Donate money while you shop! By choosing GiGi’s Playhouse Deerfield as your charity of choice, we receive a donation for every dollar you spend! Go a step further and help us to purchase some materials we need for our free programming. You can check out our wishlist of items here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1WIK2BQ8I8OBB?&sort=default
  6. Buy some GiGi’s merch! Not only will you be comfortable and stylish, you help spread a message of acceptance for all with our #GenerationG gear! When people ask where you got that awesome, super-soft sweatshirt you can tell them all about GiGi’s and Down syndrome! Stop by the playhouse or email us at Deerfield@gigisplayhouse.org.
  7. Volunteer! Every skill set can be utilized, whether it is working hands-on with our participants, organizing and creating program materials, or helping us build shelves, you can play an important part at the playhouse.
  8. Invite GiGi’s to come talk to your business or school. We would love to continue to spread the message of #GenerationG to every business, school, church, girl scout troop and more!
  9. DANCE! We ask you to step up, get down and help us create awareness and acceptance for individuals rocking an extra chromosome! Help us spread the word in this fun, simple way by creating your own #GenerationG Dance challenge video. Challenge other friends, playhouses and celebs to do the same! Use hashtags #GenerationG #gigisplayhouse #GenGDanceOff to help spread this social media campaign.
  10. Continue to take time to celebrate those #bestofall moments in your life and the lives of the people you love.
