Kaitie’s first child expanded her world when she was born with Down syndrome. Kaitie has a background as a licensed counselor and a marketing and events professional. She and her husband moved from Chicago to Colorado after grad school and don’t miss those Midwest winters one bit. She enjoys hiking with her husband and two kids, being a part of the local church, and connecting with other special needs parents.
Rachel was born and raised in Colorado and never plans to leave. She attended college at UCCS and has had a love for Colorado Springs ever since. She lives with her husband Spencer and their daughter Nora, who has Down syndrome. Their family volunteers with the Switchbacks FC Unified Team, which creates opportunities for people with disabilities to be included in sports.
Sarah is friends with Kaitie Stoddard, whose daughter Margot has Down syndrome. Sarah is interested in GiGi's Playhouse as a way to support and celebrate those in the community with Down Syndrome. She has a background in nursing and is passionate about childhood education. Sarah lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado with her husband and three children.
Sara Nelson lives in Colorado Springs with her husband Brent and three kids. Her youngest Abby has Down Syndrome and is a very active two-year-old. Sara enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, walking her husky, watching baseball, and spending time getting to know other families/cuddling babies in the new parent group with Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association. Sara went to law school at the University of South Dakota and has practiced in the area of disability law since 2008.
Steph was born and raised in Nebraska but made her way to Colorado as quickly as she could. She lives with her husband Patrick and their three children: Caroline, Callie, and SJ, better known as Crazytown. Caroline is an amazing 15-year-old and has Down syndrome.
Samantha, originally born and raised in Colorado Springs, has relocated back to the area with her husband, Sean, and their three children: Aerith, Auron and Vivienne. Samantha has an extensive background in volunteer work. Previously, she played an active role in the special needs community as vice chair for her local Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee as well as the military family representative for the Special Education State Advisory Committee for the state of Maryland. She is looking forward to sharing resources and creating a positive space for the Down syndrome community.
Luke is a third-generation Colorado Native and lives in the Colorado Springs area with his wife Rebecca and their son Calian who has Down Syndrome. Luke worked in the Social Services field in a range of positions helping reach at risk youth and working to assist community families and provide stabilization services. Luke now is Calian's in home health provider and works in sales in his free time.
Sharon was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia but now she and her husband Josh have made Colorado Springs their home. They have three children and their youngest, Alexandra (Aly), has Down Syndrome. Sharon is a family nurse practitioner and currently working as Aly’s home health nurse.
Treshia Kuiper (Tree - sha Ky - per) moved to Colorado Springs in 2000. She is a realtor at Engel & Völkers. Her husband, Brian, is a stay at home dad and serves on the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association Board. Their Down syndrome journey began when Timothy was born in 2014. His three siblings adore and spoil him! The whole family is grateful for his entry into their lives. This adventure has led to them becoming better humans.
Stephanie is a wife and mom of three. Her oldest daughter, Nora, has Down syndrome. Stephanie serves on the board of Friends of Club 21, helping to raise funds for a school in South Africa for children with Down syndrome. Stephanie loves interior design and runs her own staging business in Colorado Springs.
Amanda Morris lives in Fountain, CO just south of COS. She is a Colorado native and loves her home state. Amanda loves her little family which includes her boyfriend Jimmy, daughter Lanie, son James (with Down syndrome) and angel son Henry who had a rare chromosome abnormality. She loves concerts, being outdoors and participating in her neighborhood book club. Amanda has always worked in retail management enjoying customer service but now is a full time caregiver to James and was for Henry as well. Her goals are to volunteer her time in the community and create gifts for families who lose their children with disabilities. She loves the local DS community and is excited to help bring another great resource to our local families!
