New Windows, New Playhouse

Shalimar Beekman, an award-winning Chicago photographer who specializes in children’s photography, recently took the photos for our new windows. She spent over seven hours photographing twenty-four individuals!  Because Shalimar prefers to use natural light when possible, she took the photos in her amazing light-filled loft.  We are so grateful to Shalimar for opening her studio to us and donating her time and talent.  .

Shalimar isn’t a stranger to GiGi’s

In 2013, she took the pictures that are currently on our windows.  She had never worked with individuals with Down syndrome but she did not hesitate to get involved.   As a photographer, you don’t need to “specialize” in photographing anyone with Down syndrome.   Shalimar’s kind spirit and professionalism enabled her to quickly connect to everyone.  The photos she captured are amazing and we can’t wait to see the new pictures.

The Chicago Tribune Called

Since maternity photography is one of Shalimar’s specialities, the Chicago Tribune recently reached out to her for a quote on the Beyonce maternity photo that was released this week.  You can read the article in the Chicago Tribune’s Business Section and read the great blog post from Shalimar on how to prepare for your own maternity session.  Great job, Shalimar!  Take a look at her various photo galleries (newborn, baby, family and maternity) to see for yourself.  Be prepared to be amazed!

Get ready for the new windows and a second chance

Weather permitting, we plan to have the new pictures on our new playhouse windows by World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.  Thank you to all of the families who supported this campaign.    Also, if you did not get a spot, we will launch a new campaign in the fall to sell window spaces on the Damen Avenue side of our playhouse.

Enjoy a few glimpses of the photo session with Shalimar.
