Volunteer Spotlight – Lynne Markowitz

This month – we are recognizing someone who has gone above and beyond for GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis.

Lynne Markowitz started volunteering at GiGi’s about two years ago after retiring from Anne Arundel County Public Schools where she worked in the Special Education department. She was involved with a variety of specialized programs in Anne Arundel County including the Diagnostic Center (K – 6), Early Childhood Intervention (age 3-5), and most extensively and recently – The Infants and Toddlers Program (Birth -3) where she was the program manager. In addition to her work with AACPS, she provided Developmental Screenings for children presenting with special needs in various orphanages and foster homes in China, South Korea, and the Philippines.

“Several friends and families shared their wonderful experiences at GiGi’s Playhouse. As I had recently retired and was seeking Volunteer opportunities, I felt that I could use my past career skills at GiGi’s.” – Lynne

As the Outreach Chair at GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis, Lynne is always out in the community spreading the word about what we do and inviting new families to visit. She attended the Annapolis Oktoberfest and various community events to represent GiGi’s. In addition to spreading awareness, Lynne dedicates her Tuesday afternoons to assist with GiGi Prep where her positive attitude is contagious. She is incredibly encouraging to our participants and we are so grateful for her.

This past month, Lynne coordinated the volunteers for our 3rd Annual Golf Outing. She ensured that we had enough volunteers throughout the day and contributed to the overall success of the event. Lynne has also given up her Saturdays to work at our Navy concession stand where GiGi’s Playhouse raises funds for GiGi Prep while offering the program participants customer service experience. The Navy concession stand is hard work and Lynne is always happy to help.

When asked what her favorite part about GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis was, Lynne said, “I love watching our Participants interact with each other. GiGi’s Playhouse truly is a place that is most accepting, supportive, and positive.”

We want to say THANK YOU to Lynne and all of the other amazing volunteers at GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis!
