Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah Kellner “Community is Unity”

The Yoga Army has been a wonderful addition to GiGi’s Playhouse programming! We are so grateful for Sarah Kellner who volunteered to provide an inclusive Yoga program on Wednesday afternoons every week. What a joy!

Sarah is a Reading Interventionist at Severn Middle School, and she also is the Yoga Club Leader. Sarah brings so much positive energy to every session. She leads a relaxing Yoga flow where all friends can stretch, quiet themselves and feel some calm in their day. She engages GiGi’s participants, Yoga Army club members, including her own children, and GiGi’s Youth Board volunteers, following the weekly practice by checking in with each person. Everyone has an opportunity to be heard. Thank you for being “Generation G” –  accepting, generous and kind!

Sarah shared,

“I love volunteering for GiGi’s Playhouse because it is something I can do to help bring my community closer together. I have been using the saying “community is unity” in my passion project The Yoga Army, well before teaching here and I think it is a perfect fit for what GiGi’s does. The GiGi’s kids are so loving. They are also open to learning about and meeting new people. GiGi’s participants have welcomed me with open arms and a TON OF ENERGY.  I enjoy learning about them each week and hearing about their day.

I have three kids and they all have been able to lead class with me and have become friends with the participants. I love that we all get to be together at this time and give back. We all can not wait until we can do an in-person class. Although my youngest says that Victoria, Lily, and Hannah would make it a dance party! I think he could be right, these ladies, and all the participants and volunteers, are so fun!”

Thank you Sarah for sharing your heart, passion and beautiful soul with GiGi’s Playhouse friends. Every Wednesday we feel your message, “Community is Unity!”  You are a bright light in everyone’s week!

Want to feel a sense of community too? Join Sarah and the Yoga Army on Wednesdays, 4pm-4:30pm by RSVPing on our calendar page. (Ages 8+)
