Ivy’s Birth Story

I will never forget the first time I saw Ivy.  I looked at her and thought “Wow that’s a lot of hair” , “Gosh, she is gorgeous” and “Oh, she has Down syndrome.” In those first few hours of her life, I felt nothing but pure joy and excitement to have this baby girl! I also have never been more proud or in love with my husband than when he looked at me and said “So what, she has Down syndrome.” Of course eventually there were tears, but not because of Down syndrome, but because for me, I have seen first hand how cruel the world can be and never want my baby girl to experience that. I want the world to see her as Chris and I see her, as her sisters see her, and as our families and friends see her, just Ivy this wonderful little girl.

I am so grateful for all the love and support we have received over this past year and a half. We have met incredible people and done wonderful things. Our family and friends are amazing! I know because of Ivy, my girls will be better people, kinder, and more accepting people. I know the road will not always be easy, but we are so grateful it’s the road we get to travel on!
