Creating Belonging, Even On the Coldest Days

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures drop, many people notice a shift not just in the weather, but in their mood, energy levels, and overall wellbeing. Winter can be a beautiful season, but for some, it brings increased stress, low mood, and a sense of isolation.

The sun sets earlier, the weather is cold and people tend to stay inside more. The shortest months can feel like the longest. At this time of year, we want to remind our families that they can always find family, friendship and “sunshine” at GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park.

Having a place where your family is known, welcomed and celebrated brings a warmth we all need. Through our programs – even at the most casual Destination Discovery: Open Play – we strive to be that place for our families.

During the winter, people typically get less exercise. Our programs like GiGiMOVE Adults: TEAM and GiGiMOVE YOGA help keep families moving while encouraging physical development, sensory regulation, and social engagement.

GiGi’s Kitchen programs help participants’ build self-esteem and self-confidence through nutrition and wellness, which are an important part of keeping our bodies healthy this time of year.

Whether it’s a social gathering, a family-friendly event, a chance to build new friendships or gain new skills, there is something here for everyone looking to lift their spirits and stay connected throughout the cold winter months.

We at GiGi’s Tinley Park believe community and connection are the best ways to combat the winter blues. When families come together with others who truly understand their journey, the season feels warmer and lighter. Our programs aren’t just activities – they’re opportunities to belong, be seen and find joy even on the grayest winter days.

Check out all of the programs we have to offer on our calendar today and come join us!
