Making the Drive Worthwhile

Read about Nancy and her son Damian.  They drive from Tomball to Sugar Land to participate in speech therapy, literacy and math tutoring! For those of you that are not

from the Houston area, it is NOT close.

I am writing this to say thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart for giving the gift of Speech therapy to our family.  Ms. Ranjita has been working hard with our son Damian. She’s our Angel!!

Damian loves her and has learned so much!

At the beginning of the year, a speech therapist at a different facility had been working with Damian and  had taught him to say substitute sounds for letters that he already was saying correctly.  I didn’t know at the time that she was doing that and it caused so much confusion and frustration when Damian and I would practice our sounds and words. I wanted to understand what was going on so I asked to be included in the session and as I listened to her going over the letter sounds with my son, I was writing down all the letters as I was hearing her telling Damian to say which were substitute sounds for the letters that he knew correctly to begin with, which were several .  I asked her why she was teaching Damian substitution sounds  that he had the sound for, I really didn’t get a straight answer, she just said that speech therapy is on going and once he got the word with the substitute then he could relearn it correctly.  I couldn’t wrap my head around that!

I looked for speech therapy at another location and they told me that my son was 7 years old and if he isn’t talking by now then he isn’t going to talk.  This was hard to take in but I refused to give up!  Quitting or slowing down is not an option for us!

For a while, I had been wanting to visit GiGi’s Playhouse so my son could play and decided to do so and I truly believe that the timing and everything else that followed was all orchestrated by God because I got abundantly more than I could ever imagine!  I had met with Belinda that day, she had a big smile and made the place feel so welcoming.  She told me about all the programs that they offered, I was so impressed and excited that I couldn’t wait for the classes to start for Damian. On my way home that day after talking with Belinda, I had sensed her warmth and beautiful heart…I just felt a peace come over me knowing that Damian was in good hands and everything was going to be just fine. And here we are with Damian showing so much progress in a short period of time.

Everytime I tell someone about this story,  tears just roll down my face because it touches my soul that someone gave my son a  chance and their precious time.

I went into detail in writing this because I wanted to give you a clear picture of how Damian’s letter sounds and speech was when he started getting speech therapy from Ms. Ranjita.  She definitely had her work cut out for her and she was able to hear the letter sounds that Damian indeed had all this time but she had to undo the damage that was done and pull out the sounds and have him relearn them.

I have such admiration for Ms. Ranjita. Words cannot express my gratitude, I will be forever grateful.  She is truly a Blessing to our family and to this world!

I came across the following quote and immediately thought of Ms. Ranjita.

“I was born to be an Speech Language Pathologist. To teach, to love, to guide, to encourage. It is who I am. It’s my passion and my calling”.

I want to thank everyone at GiGi’s Playhouse from the bottom of my heart for everything you do for our Kiddos and our families. You truly change our lives!!  I have read so many wonderful stories about kids getting speech therapy and had amazing results but these places were far away. I’m overwhelmed with Joy because this is our story about our son Damian.  We are grateful beyond measure!

Blessings,

Nancy Moyado
