Jazzy is Back!

Jazzmine graduated from High School in 2017 & participated in LCISD’s Adult Transition program. It’s a program offered to individuals with special needs where they learn life skills, set goals and get out into the community to learn job training skills.  2020 would have been her final year and unfortunately, she was unable to finish it or participate in her final banquet with her team for the Special Olympics which she had been apart of for more than 10 years. She participated in bowling, basketball & track and field and enjoyed every bit of it.  Her world was turned upside down with the pandemic hit.

We had taken her to a couple of things at GiGi’s before the pandemic and then participated in the drive thru Trunk or Treat and after, we kept trying to convince her to go.  Finally, we caught her on a good day and we convinced her to go and participate in the Christmas ornament exchange with the Gratitude Committee.  There are no words to describe the happiness on her face when we picked her up that day!  She had a HUGE Kool-Aid smile and kept asking when she could go back to her “new-school”.   Now every morning she comes out and says, “Good morning, I’m ready for school”.  When we pick her up it’s all smiles every time.  She now participates in Gratitude Committee, GiGi Prep, Fantastic Friends and will start Speech Therapy this summer.   During 2020 there was no motivation, all she wanted to do was be on her iPad and nap and now  it’s “Am I going to GiGi’s today”?  Programs like this are a total and complete blessing in our eyes because Jazzy is back to being Jazzy and there is nothing better than that!

She is such a fun person! Though we can’t see the smile through masks her eyes just light up. So happy she has found a place at Gigi’s.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jazzy this week and she is truly fun to work with. She was focused and determined to accomplish the task at hand. Great job, Jazzy! I can’t wait to work with you again.
