Our Diagnosis Story: Lilah Jane

Our daughter, Lilah Jane, was born on March 7, 2022, and she is the light of our lives. Unfortunately her entrance into the world didn’t begin how it should have. The joy and excitement of our first child being born, quickly turned into fear. It is very unfortunate that we felt this way, just because there is a huge fear of the unknown with Down Syndrome. We had an after birth diagnosis, and knew very little about Down Syndrome at the time.

When you hear “your baby may have Down Syndrome”, your head fills with so many scenarios about your child’s (and your) future. If we only knew then, what we know now, there wouldn’t have been so much fear. Lilah has been the absolute best thing that happened to our family! Yes, there are challenges to overcome, but it is beyond worth it. She has taught us and our family, so much about life already. One of the biggest, is to slow down and appreciate the little things more. It takes longer for her to meet each milestone, but when she does, it is joyous!

Being born with Down Syndrome doesn’t mean there’s anything that she can’t do, it may just take her a little longer to get there. Spreading knowledge about Down Syndrome, will be the key to other families not having the fear we had in the beginning. We couldn’t be happier to be part of the movement to spread awareness. I know being a part of Gigi’s Playhouse will help us do this. Gigi’s has become such an important part of our lives already. We can’t wait to become even more involved in the coming years.
