Meet Kara!

Kara Nunn M.S. CCC-SLP, a clinical instructor in the department of Speech-Language Pathology at Binghamton University, teaching and supervising graduate and undergraduate students. Throughout her 17 years of clinical practice, Ms. Nunn’s clinical experience encompasses early intervention and pre-school, private practice, public schools, and post-21 transitioning. She has dedicated her professional career to evaluating and treating individuals with diverse communication needs. Ms. Nunn has a holistic approach to treatment as an advocate, teacher, consultant and mentor. Clients and family goals are always part of therapy sessions. Ms. Nunn has focused on development of programming for carryover of AAC into the community and supporting families and students outside of the educational setting. She has presented and provided continuing education both locally and within the state.

 

Meet Dara!

Dara Caruana joined Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences in September 2021 as a clinical instructor in the Speech and Language Pathology Division.

She has 20 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist, having spent much of her career working with adults with disabilities with a focus on AAC, IDD and dysphagia/feeding.

Most recently, Caruana was the first clinic manager and speech-language pathologist for YAI’s Center for Specialty Therapy in Westchester County, NY. She has also been a speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings. In addition, Caruana was an adjunct professor at SUNY Empire State College in Brooklyn, N.Y., teaching courses in child and human development.

She has provided services to individuals from school aged to age 80+, and has evaluated and treated individuals with developmental and acquired disabilities. She takes a holistic approach with each client.

Caruana is licensed by the board in New York and has a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She also has a Teacher of Speech & Hearing Handicapped certificate.
