More Than a Day: Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day at GiGi’s Playhouse Simi Valley

World Down Syndrome Day is always one of the most meaningful days of the year at GiGi’s Playhouse—and this year was no exception.

On March 21 (3/21), our community came together in the most beautiful way to celebrate, connect, and raise awareness—and it ws truly a day to remember.

This year, we marked the occasion with two incredible events: our 321 Challenge Fundraiser and our Sock Hop Celebration, each bringing our community together in meaningful and joyful ways.

321 Challenge: Stronger Together

We kicked off the day with our 321 Challenge, hosted by our amazing community partner, DC Fitness.

From the very first round, energy in the room was incredible. Participants of all ages and abilities showed up ready to move, challenge themselves, and support a mission that means so much to all of us.

The workout was about more than just fitness—it was about community. Families, volunteers, and supporters worked side by side, encouraging one another and celebrating every win along the way.

Together, we raised over $1,000 for GiGi’s Playhouse! It was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

Every registration and donation from the 321 Challenge supports our free, purposeful programming, helping individuals with Down syndrome build confidence, independence, and lifelong skills. We are so grateful to everyone who showed up, gave their all, and made the morning so impactful.

The Sock Hop: A Celebration of Joy & Connection

Later that afternoon, the celebration continued at the Playhouse with our World Down Syndrome Day Sock Hop hosted by Connecting a Caring Community. From karaoke and dancing to sock decorating, the Playhouse was alive with connection.

Participants, siblings, parents, and community members came together to celebrate in a space where everyone belongs.

The afternoon included:

  • A lively karaoke stage
  • A fun photo booth
  • Sweet treats and a candy bar
  • Interactive activities for all ages

A very special thank you to the teens from Connecting a Caring Community for helping make this event so memorable. Their kindness, energy, and connection with our participants made a lasting impact on us all.
