Little Learners, Big Milestones: Inside LMNOP at GiGi’s Playhouse Simi Valley

Some of the biggest moments at GiGi’s Playhouse Simi Valley come from our littlest participants. A first sign for “more.” A giggle during a favorite song. A brave scoot across the circle to sit next to a new friend. These are the moments that fill the room during LMNOP — and they’re exactly why this program holds such a special place in our Playhouse family.
LMNOP — short for Language Music ‘N Our Peeps — is designed for children from newborn to 36 months and their caregivers. Through music, movement, stories, and sensory play, little ones are introduced to basic sign language and other early forms of communication, building the foundation for language development during the most important years of growth.
But don’t let the singing and dancing fool you — like everything at GiGi’s Playhouse, LMNOP is purposeful and progressive. Each session is thoughtfully structured to build vocabulary, encourage vocalization, and practice skills like following directions and engaging in circle time. Seated and crawling activities support fine and gross motor development along the way. Step by step, song by song, children build the skills that prepare them for their next big adventure: preschool.
Just as important is what LMNOP offers parents and caregivers. For many families, this program is their very first experience at the Playhouse — sometimes just weeks or months after a diagnosis. Caregivers participate right alongside their children, learning signs and strategies they can carry into everyday routines at home. And in the process, they find something they may not have expected: a community of families who understand the journey, celebrate every milestone, and welcome them like family from the very first visit.
That’s the beauty of starting early. GiGi’s Playhouse makes a lifetime commitment to families, and for many, LMNOP is where that lifetime begins.
Like all of our educational, therapeutic, and career development programs, LMNOP is completely FREE for individuals with Down syndrome and their families — made possible by our generous donors and dedicated volunteers.
