Famous Gluten Free Green Bean Casserole
December 18, 2015
Okay is everyone ready for this amazing recipe?? After a long and torturous wait we have the recipe (it’s partly my fault I received it and missed it, sorry folks!), it is being made public for the first time! Tyler has been great about sharing his recipe and we want to thank him for all his hard work with helping with Cooking Club and sharing his talents with us.
Green Bean Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
2 lbs green beans, raw
1 garlic bulb
1/4 cup oil
2 shallots, minced
1 red onion, sliced into thin rounds
2 cups cornstarch
salt and pepper
oil for frying
zest of one orange
Directions
First, blanch and shock the green beans. Set aside. Then wrap garlic bulb in aluminum foil with a splash of oil and roast in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes, the cloves will be soft and lightly browned when done. Squeeze the bulb to release the cloves and set aside.
Add 1/4 cup oil to saute pan over medium high heat. When oil is hot add green beans and shallots, season with salt and pepper. When shallots become soft add the roasted garlic cloves and saute for a minute more. Transfer green bean mixture into a serving dish, keep warm.
Next, get a pot of oil heated to 275-300 degrees to fry the onion rings. Mix the cornstarch with salt and pepper and coat the onion rings with the mixture, shaking off any excess. Sprinkle the onion rings into the oil as to separate them as they hit the oil, don’t over crowd the pot. The onions will be golden brown and crispy when done. Take out of oil and drain the excess oil off on a towel. Place the onion rings on top of the green beans. Top the dish off with the orange zest.
