Get Ready for a Very Special Down Syndrome Awareness Month (October) at GiGi’s Playhouse Portland 

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month (DSAM)…a very special month for the Down syndrome community and GiGi’s Playhouse. Nationally, GiGi’s promotes awareness through a variety of innovative initiatives (read more here). 

Locally, GiGi’s Playhouse Portland is planning several exciting opportunities to connect, contribute and advocate for the Down syndrome community. Here are only a few of the ways: 

1.) GiGi’s Playhouse Portland will be opening on September 28^th with FREE programming beginning in October. Schedule a playhouse tour; Meet our volunteers; schedule a volunteer orientation but come see and hear why we exist. 

2.) Every October, GiGi’s Playhouse Portland sponsors a month-long campaign to raise awareness and the needed financial support to provide our services FREE of charge to our participants. Here are exciting plans for this October: 

• This will knock your “socks” off: The global design and manufacturing team for Nike Socks, Delta Galil, has sponsored the production of four special sock designs for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. What’s more amazing is that they collaborated with four local “designers” … all of whom provided inspiration and artistic elements; and all of whom experience Down syndrome. During the month of October 1000 pairs of these special socks will be given as a “thank you” to those who donate $21 to GiGi’s October Down Syndrome Awareness Month general campaign. Make a $21 donation here and come to GiGi’s Playhouse (after we open on September 28^th) to pick out your favorite design: 

Going once…Going twice…sold! Part of GiGi’s October fundraising campaign is a benefit auction being held on October 20^th at TopGolf Hillsboro. You could help us by contributing items that could be part of our online and live auction.
