Celebration in Every Magical Step
Where celebration became connection, confidence, and unforgettable joy

You could feel it the moment you arrived. Before the music fully registered, before you noticed the decorations or spotted familiar faces across the room, there was already a feeling in the air that this was going to be different. This was not just a dance. This was a celebration built with intention from the ground up.
The Dazzle Prom, hosted by JustServe and their incredible leaders Liz Jergensen and Meg Ham, transformed an ordinary basketball court into something that felt almost unrecognizable in the best possible way. What is usually a gym became a beautiful prom filled with lights, music, laughter, and thoughtful details in every direction. Real flowers decorated the space. The room glowed with excitement and anticipation. Everywhere you looked, it was obvious that people had put genuine care into creating something meaningful.
And that care mattered.
The evening of celebration was created especially for GiGi’s Playhouse participants ages 16 and up, and it showed in every detail. More than 75 participants arrived dressed for a night that was clearly designed to honor them. From the very beginning, they were treated not as attendees at an event, but as true guests of honor.
The red carpet entrance set the tone immediately.

As participants arrived, they walked into cheers, smiles, photos, excitement, and celebration. There was no question whose night this was. For so many people, life can feel filled with moments of standing on the sidelines or trying to fit into spaces not built with them in mind. This night flipped that completely. This was a space created intentionally for them to shine.
Each participant was paired with a buddy, ensuring that nobody walked through the evening alone. That simple detail changed everything. It created instant connection and comfort while also turning the night into something deeply relational instead of simply entertaining. The JustServe youth showed up fully invested, dressed in suits and dresses, ready not just to volunteer but to participate wholeheartedly in the joy of the evening.
Guys were given crowns. Girls wore tiaras. Real flowers added elegance and warmth that elevated the entire experience from “fun event” to something unforgettable. Every detail communicated the same message: You are celebrated here.
And then there were the volunteers.
150 of them.
Not standing along the walls watching things unfold, but completely immersed in the energy of the night. Dancing, laughing, encouraging, taking photos, starting dance circles, pulling people into the celebration, and helping create a room that felt alive from corner to corner. There was no divide between “hosts” and “participants.” It felt like one giant community choosing joy together.
The dance floor quickly became the heartbeat of the evening.

Dance circles formed constantly, growing bigger and louder throughout the night. One song would end and another circle would begin almost immediately. People danced without hesitation, without self-consciousness, without worrying how they looked. The freedom in the room was impossible not to notice. Pure joy has a way of stripping away pretense, and that is exactly what happened.
There was pizza. Handel’s ice cream. Endless laughter. Music echoing through the gym. But what people will remember most is the feeling. The kind of joy that settles into your chest and stays there long after the night ends.
And somehow, nobody wanted it to end.
Even after the advertised 8pm ending time, the music kept going because the room simply was not ready to let go of the moment. That alone says something important. People stay where they feel connected. They linger where they feel celebrated. And this night created both.
What made the Dazzle Prom so impactful was not just the decorations or the planning, although both were beautifully done. It was the intention behind every decision. The thoughtfulness woven into the experience from beginning to end.
Even the separate parents’ room reflected that level of care. Families had space to gather and connect while still allowing the focus of the evening to remain centered on the participants themselves. Every layer of the event felt purposeful.
And that is what made it powerful.
Because more than a dance, the Dazzle Prom became a reminder of what happens when a community decides to create a space where people are not merely included, but genuinely celebrated. A reminder that joy can be intentional. That belonging can be created. That confidence can grow in rooms where people feel fully seen.
For one night, a basketball court became something much bigger. It became a place where over 75 GiGi’s Playhouse participants walked red carpets, wore crowns and tiaras, danced their hearts out, and experienced the kind of celebration every person deserves.
And long after the final song ended, that feeling remained.
GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County exists to change the way the world views Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all. Through free educational, therapeutic, career development, and social programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, the Playhouse creates a space where confidence grows, milestones are celebrated, and genuine community is built. Every program offered inside these walls is completely free to families and made possible entirely through private donations, fundraising efforts like Run for 21, and the generosity of people who believe every individual deserves to be seen, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.
