The Generous Contributions of Empowering Art with GiGi’s Playhouse

Over the past year and a half, GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County has been privileged to receive the enthusiastic support of Empowering Arts, an organization founded by Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) high school student artists committed to positively impacting the community and environment through live instrumental music and multidisciplinary arts. This group of young artists has embraced a culture of service, channeling their talents and passion into giving back to neighborhoods with creativity and dedication.

Empowering Arts’ mission is multifaceted, aiming to promote environmental conservation, health, and social connection through their artistic endeavors. They focus on enriching the lives of various underserved groups, including seniors with limited mobility, children with disabilities, and others who might not typically have access to such cultural experiences. Their dedication to these causes is evident in their monthly performances at our Orange County Playhouse, where they offer free instrumental showcases. These events introduce our audiences to the enchanting world of classical music, featuring a range of instruments like the violin, oboe, piano, harp, and even an array of ancients and traditional instruments from South Korea.

Initially, there was some uncertainty about how our community would receive these classical music performances, as they marked a significant departure from our usual karaoke sessions. However, any apprehensions were quickly dispelled as we witnessed our audiences being thoroughly captivated by the beautiful melodies. The timeless compositions of masters such as Chopin and Mozart have become beloved favorites within our playhouse, bringing a sense of sophistication and tranquility to our events.

The impact of Empowering Arts extends beyond their monthly free performances. Recently, they made a generous donation to our playhouse: a full-size Casio electric piano. This stunning instrument now graces our stage, inviting anyone with an interest in music to sit down and play. We hope that this gift will ignite a passion for piano playing among our community members and perhaps inspire some to pursue piano lessons. The presence of this piano serves as a constant reminder of the generosity and support of Empowering Arts, encouraging everyone who sees it to explore the joys of music.

The young performers of Empowering Arts are truly inspiring. Balancing their academic commitments and personal lives, they still find the time to share their talents and spread joy through their performances. Their dedication to making a difference in the community is commendable, and their willingness to volunteer their time and skills is a testament to their character and passion for service.
