Sylvie’s Story

Since last November, GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville has offered 9 therapeutic programs to individuals with Down syndrome of all ages.  In the next year, we hope to offer at least 15 quality programs.   All programs are free of charge and led by volunteers who are professionals in the field.  One of the most successful programs at GiGi’s Playhouses across the nation is Language Music N’ Our Peeps (LMNOP).  We are excited to have Courtney Wright, a local Speech Therapist, leading this amazing program here at the Nashville Playhouse, which meets on the 4th Saturday of every month!  LMNOP guides parents and infants through learning basic sign language and through incorporating music and dance therapy into daily activities to stimulate the child.  Here’s a video of the very first LMNOP session!

Sylvie’s story…

“This is Tyler Merideth (Sylvie’s Dad). I wanted to share with you about LMNOP.  Sherry and I have loved the fact that Sylvie receives positive reinforcement from peers and others regarding speech and song.  The fact that we are both teachers, we understand the importance of group interaction and positive peer pressure.  Thanks to LMNOP, I have been exposed to countless baby signs and have retained several new signs that I would have never had the forethought to look up on my own.

In terms of how we have seen Sylvie grow, the attached video should speak for itself.  Thanks for everything you do and what GiGi’s does for the community.”
