Music In Motion Program Launched

Our first new program of 2015 is off to a great start!  Music in Motion builds self-confidence, strengthens social skills, communication, and motors skills through the therapeutic use of music and dance.  This program is offered to participants age 9-14 and is led by Cayla Catino, Site Coordinator of GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville and Board Certified Music Therapist, (MT-BC).  We are also excited to partner with the Music Therapy Program at Belmont University, providing a practicum site for their students, and spreading awareness of the benefits Music Therapy has on our kids.

There are two different Music in Motion groups that meet bi-monthly.  In the very first sessions, participants were shaking hands and singing hello, singing songs about what they like to do, taking turns playing the drum, and following directions.  Like every program at GiGi’s Playhouse, even though it seems like they’re just having fun, participants are meeting their goals, learning social skills of taking turns and appropriate social interactions, working on self-expression and more!
