Why do we celebrate with socks?
Chromosomes look like socks and this is where the idea of Rock your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day was born... simple! We celebrate and raise awareness by wearing our brightest, loudest socks. Mismatched socks further the idea of showing off our differences to draw attention to our uniqueness and to start conversations about how socks look similar yet different just like our friends with Ds.
Why is World Down Syndrome Day held on March 21st?
Down syndrome happens when there are three copies of the 21st chromosome (Trisomy 21).
3/21 -- (3rd month of the year and the 21st day) easy to remember!
