GiGiFIT Teen Wraps Inaugural Session

GiGi’s Playhouse Denver celebrates another milestone to close out a momentous 2021 – the successful close of its first GiGiFIT session!  Starting in November 2021, participants met weekly at the Playhouse for six group fitness sessions. This program marks the first teen program held in the recently opened location, the 55th Playhouse in the GiGi’s family of Down syndrome achievement centers.

Participants Michael Gaccetta and Dominick Vasquez, both 16 years old, shared that they looked forward to coming to the GiGiFIT Teen sessions each week to work with their amazing leaders, Jaclyn Jacobs and Kirstin Lamers.   As GiGiFIT leads, Jacobs and Lamers reported that both of these young men have really grown in the short six weeks during this pilot session. Not only did they form a new friendship, but they both became stronger in areas such as with their squats and planks. 

Jacobs, founder and instructor at Red Pilates Garage, serves as the GiGiFIT Teen lead for the Denver Playhouse. She first learned of GiGi’s Playhouse in the summer of 2021 and quickly signed up to join the program team in support of the Grand Opening this fall.  She is excited to help this program grow with additional sessions for youth and adult age groups.

About the Program 

GiGiFIT Teen introduces the key movements of foundational, hip strengthening, and vestibular/balance exercises, we focus on improving areas of fitness through activities in strength, endurance, joint stability, balance, movement control, and more. GiGiFIT Teen incorporates age-appropriate activities that teens can be successful with and strengthen their bodies purposefully.  GiGiFIT promotes wellness through nutrition, pushing through barriers, and building self-confidence.
