A New Destination for Purposeful Playtime in Denver!

Volunteer Spotlight Q&A
Briana Rigau, Program Lead, Destination Discovery

Destination Discovery is one of the signature programs at GiGi’s Playhouse, following the same structure and curriculum at each location to provide purposeful progressions by supporting our youngest learners through adulthood.  This program is developed to support fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills, and language through purposeful play and peer-to-peer interaction in a casual and fun setting.   It’s an engaging program for the entire family – everyone of all ages is welcomed to participate!

Let’s get to meet the face of Destination Discovery at the Denver Playhouse – Briana Rigau.

Briana Rigau, OT

Q:  Tell us about you
A: I am an occupational therapist. I graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology and earned my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, as well as my Doctor of Occupational Therapy degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I grew up in Arvada and currently live in Denver with my fiancé, Tim, and our dog, Norman.

Q: How did you get involved with GiGi’s?
A:  I got involved with GiGi’s Playhouse as a volunteer with the Crawlers and Walkers program at the Chicago Playhouse while attending UIC.  It was such a rewarding experience.  When I saw that Denver was launching their own Playhouse, I immediately filled out an interest form to volunteer.

Q:  Why’s GiGi’s Playhouse?
A: I love GiGi’s message and mission of full acceptance and inclusion for all.

Q:  Can you share a favorite memory of your experience with the Playhouse?
A: So far, my favorite part of GiGi’s Playhouse Denver has been getting to meet and work with the startup team. The startup team is enthusiastic and determined to bring GiGi’s Playhouse to Denver. I’m thankful for their hard work and tenacity. I can’t wait until we open the doors and start working with local families.

Q:  What does acceptance mean to you?
A: Acceptance means respecting and appreciating all individuals, regardless of differences, disabilities, and/or delays. Neurodiversity is important and beneficial to our society. Acceptance means full inclusion and involvement in all aspects of home, school, and community life.

Thank you, Briana – Your positive outlook is so inspiring.  Our families are going to absolutely LOVE spending time with you at the new Playhouse!

We invite YOU to join us at GiGi’s Playhouse where cost is never a barrier to achievement. All our programs are offered completely FREE.  Check out the website for the program calendar to sign up.  And if you’re interested in volunteering, learn more by visiting the Volunteer page.  We’re currently working to secure volunteers for education programs, literacy tutors, administration, and more.
