Community Member in Raleigh Inspires Us All

During our March Match fundraising challenge, we want to highlight and thank the inspiration and activation energy for GiGi’s Playhouse Denver – Lauren Bohlander. Lauren’s story highlights the fact that you do not need to have a personal connection with someone with Down syndrome to make a positive impact for the future of Denver’s Down syndrome community.

Lauren does not have a close family member with Down syndrome.  She does not have a best friend or neighbor with Down syndrome. She simply got involved by volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh a few years ago and fell in LOVE!  Lauren’s joy for GiGi’s Playhouse spread to her family and soon she got her mother and father to join her as volunteers at GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh. After they thought their family would be moving back to Denver, Lauren knew she couldn’t come back to Colorado without bringing GiGi’s Playhouse with her. 💕

As a junior in high school, she reached out to families here in the Denver area to see who was interested in joining the GiGi’s Playhouse Denver Startup Team.

Many of our volunteers and startup team members do have loved ones with Down syndrome, but many DO NOT. This is one of the absolute BEST parts of GiGi’s Playhouse – the 48 brick and mortar locations throughout the US and Mexico truly provide an ongoing opportunity for community members who do not have a family member with Down syndrome to come togetherbuild relationships, learn, and grow with individuals who are chromosomally enhanced.

Thank you Lauren, for joining GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh, and for ALL the amazing ripple effects that have flowed outward to Denver and beyond. Because of your passion and the choices you have made, GiGi’s Playhouse Denver is possible and in full force to open by the end of the year. You continue to inspire us every day.
