NEW Partnership with EDP and GiGi’s Wrapped Truck

With October recognized as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Chicago-based EDP – one of the largest propane marketers in the U.S. – has partnered with GiGi’s Playhouse on an initiative to help change the way the world views Down syndrome. On Friday, October 27, EDP unveiled a custom-wrapped propane delivery truck (“bobtail”) at the GiGi’s Playhouse in Deerfield, Illinois.

The event was attended by families served by the Deerfield Playhouse along with several EDP executives and their families. The unveiling of the custom-wrapped truck was a surprise to EDP team members in attendance who have welcomed children with Down syndrome.

GiGi’s Playhouse – a national organization with 58 locations across the U.S. and Mexico – is working to change the way the world views a Down syndrome diagnosis, and to send a global message of acceptance for all. Every day they provide free, life-changing therapeutic, educational, and career-training programs for 30,000+ individuals of all ages.

At the event, EDP’s President and Chief Operating Officer Boyd McGathey revealed the bobtail and announced a commitment to donate one cent per gallon delivered by the Brightstar Propane delivery truck over the next 12 months, or a minimum of $5,000. The Brightstar bobtail is just one of 10 bobtails at various EDP operations across the country that donate a percentage of sales to various charities.

“We are thrilled to establish this partnership with GiGi’s Playhouse and make this commitment to such an amazing organization,” said McGathey. “Down syndrome touches many families, including our EDP family, so we are eager to not only make a financial commitment to GiGi’s, but also – thanks to the exciting graphics on the bobtail – raise awareness of this wonderful organization and what it is doing to support families with a member with Down syndrome.”

Shannon Kerin, Executive Director of the Deerfield GiGi’s Playhouse stated, “We couldn’t be more pleased than to partner with EDP on this initiative. We welcome not only EDP’s financial commitment but their assistance in raising awareness of our mission to change the way the world views Down syndrome.”
