EPIC, our new Adult Program!
Empowerment Participation Independence Community
When you hear the word “epic” we hope you think of other words like “grand”, “glorious”, and “outstanding”. When we picture the capabilities of adults with Down syndrome, we think EPIC! It’s no secret to us that our participants are grand or outstanding, but now it’s time to get them out in the community, participating in empowering activities that boost their levels of independence.
Who? Where? When?
We had a great info night before the holiday season and we are ready to get this program going! EPIC will start this Sunday, January 27th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Individuals with Down syndrome ages 21 and older are welcome to join us at GiGi’s Playhouse in Chicago. The adults will help plan what they would like to work on for the next several meetings. Some activities include meeting out in the community, improving independence through vocational skills, and boosting their sense of empowerment through self-advocacy. This is more than just an opportunity to hang out and play games. EPIC, like all of our other programs, is purposeful and progressive. Christina, Paige, and Julie, the volunteers leading this program, spend lots of time lesson planning and gathering information about the community so the participants have the best opportunity to grow and succeed.
The program will continue to meet on the 4th Sunday of each month. Times and locations may vary depending on if the location is at the playhouse or out in the community. Please use the link found on the calendar to RSVP! Whether you’re new to the playhouse or participated in one of our programs before, we can’t wait to welcome you to our new EPIC program this Sunday!
