Girl Scout Troop #65747

Did you know that GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park has a Girl Scout troop? Once a month, GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park is the meeting place for Troop #65747. This troop is made up of school-aged participant girls from grades K through 5.

The Girl Scouts website celebrates that “Girl Scouts of all ages make lifelong friends, gain leadership skills, earn Girl Scout badges, and spend quality time with positive role models as they explore the world around them.” Grade-level plans are available from the organization, and can be tailored to meet the group’s needs. In Troop #65747, the leadership of dedicated parents ensures that these participants can be unapologetically themselves while discovering their own strengths, gaining skills and confidence, and belonging to a supportive community.

I had the chance to ask one of the parents about why she enrolled her daughter in Girl Scouts:

“Hannah wanted to join Girl Scouts because she loves being with girlfriends. Hannah likes to be busy; she longs for socialization and Gigi’s Girl Scouts provides her with peer socialization, friendships (outside of school), and community-driven activities where she can feel successful!

As moms (and troop leaders) we want our girls to form genuine friendships and interact with their community, so we try to plan a mixture of events both inside and outside of the Playhouse. Our girls (and their moms) enjoy spending time together, exploring new places in the community, and learning from each other.”

We are so proud of these girls! GiGi’s Playhouse’s Vision is “to see a world where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools, and communities.” Similarly, at its heart, Girl Scouts is about belonging – every girl is valued for who she is, encouraged to discover her strengths and supported as she grows. We applaud and celebrate the dedicated group of parents who are turning this vision into reality.

Who doesn’t love Girl Scout cookies? Troop #65747 is selling them! If you would like to support these girls by buying cookies, please use the link below! Be sure to order before the deadline of Feb 1st!

Orders may also be placed at the Playhouse Tues-Fri, 9a-5p.
