Finding Confidence and Connection Through Music: Adult Music Therapy at GiGi’s Playhouse Southern Tier!
At GiGi’s Playhouse Southern Tier, we’re always looking for ways to support and empower our community, especially our adult participants. One of our newest yet transformative programs we offer is our group adult music therapy class, led by the incredibly talented and compassionate Kristen Carter, MT-BC of Kristen Carter Music Therapy. Kristen brings so much more than music to the table — she brings a sense of purpose, joy, and belonging to every session. With her energy, creativity, and deep clinical expertise, Kristen creates a space where participants feel safe to express themselves, explore new ideas, and build lasting confidence.
More Than Music: A Space to Shine
Music therapy is not just about learning songs or playing instruments — it’s about unlocking potential. Whether participants are singing their hearts out, finding rhythm in drumming circles, or writing an original song, every activity is designed to nurture self-expression and celebrate individuality. Each session is structured to meet the group’s needs while giving individuals the opportunity to shine in their own unique way. For some, it’s a moment of creative freedom. For others, it’s a breakthrough in communication or a much-needed outlet for emotional expression.
A Bridge to Connection
The impact of this class goes far beyond the music room. Music becomes a bridge to connection, communication, and self-worth. For many of our adult participants, this class provides a vital opportunity to connect with others in a supportive, inclusive environment. It’s a place where everyone is seen, heard, and celebrated — exactly as they are. We know that Music Therapy can help our individuals with Down syndrome grow in confidence, develop social skills, and find joy in meaningful interactions. These are not small victories — they’re life-changing milestones.
Empowering Bold Living
We are incredibly grateful for Kristen’s ongoing commitment to the disability community. Her passion and dedication have made this class not only a highlight of the week but an essential part of our mission to help individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities live boldly, believe in themselves, and get to express themselves creatively!
Music therapy at GiGi’s Playhouse Southern Tier isn’t just fun — it’s empowering. And we’re proud to offer a program that continues to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of our adult participants.
