A Night to Remember: Our AMAZING “I Have a Voice” Gala

On Saturday evening, the Charleston community came together in a powerful celebration of advocacy, inclusion, and hope at GiGi’s Playhouse Charleston’s first-ever “I Have a Voice” Gala. More than just a fundraiser, this unforgettable night served as a beautiful reminder of our mission: to change the way the world views Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all.
Powerful Stories and a Warm Welcome
The evening began with the premiere of our “I Have a Voice” video, directed by our Board Secretary and Gala Chair, Michelle Tonkonogy. The video showcased the voices, smiles, and strength of our participants and families, capturing the heart of everything we do at the Playhouse. Watch here!

Following the video, Breana Crenshaw, our Site Manager, took the stage to deliver a heartfelt welcome and keynote address. She shared her personal journey with GiGi’s Playhouse, highlighted our free educational and therapeutic programs, and introduced a participant whose story reflected the powerful and lasting impact of our mission.
Honoring Those Who Make a Difference

As guests enjoyed a delicious seated dinner, we had the honor of celebrating three remarkable individuals whose compassion and dedication shine in our community:
- Paula Richnafsky – Generation G in the 843 Award
- Heather Cotone – Shining Star Award
- Marie Myers – Difference Maker Award (surprised live!)
The awards were presented by Kim Jenkins, our Board Treasurer, alongside Paul Vogel, an adult participant with Down syndrome and a vibrant part of the Playhouse.
Giving with Heart and Celebrating with Joy
The spirit of generosity filled the room during an exciting live auction, followed by a deeply emotional Bid from the Heart led by Nancy Gianni, Founder and Chief Belief Officer of GiGi’s Playhouse, and her daughter GiGi. Their powerful words reminded everyone why this mission is so meaningful and life-changing.
To close out the evening, The Flash Mob Band got everyone on their feet with an incredible performance—ending the night on a joyful, high-energy note.
