Youth Board of the Month: Raleigh

Three Words That Make a Difference

Commitment. Perseverance. Advocacy. Those three words shape how a Youth Board is made and shaped in each part of the country. This blog is part of a series where we’ll share different Youth Board’s perspectives, stories, and a passion to drive inclusion in their communities. We can’t thank each Youth Board enough for helping to create change and support the #GenerationG message in the process.

The Raleigh Youth Board had the exciting pleasure of working with their Playhouse to help bring the energy for their “I have a Voice” Gala. The event brought their GiGi’s family together to raise awareness and donations to come back stronger next year. It was the type of event that made many members of the Raleigh YB truly realize why the #GenerationG message is strong and why their Board exists in the first place.

The Raleigh Youth Board never looks back, and they only plan to grow from here. Creativity and fun are at the heart of Raleigh as each member helps create a space of acceptance and fun. What sounds like a great combination of both? (Hint: It’s Halloween!).

Clare’s (a member of Raleigh) favorite event that Raleigh accomplishes each year is Halloween dance as it reflects a time where inclusion matters most, and everyone cheers for a fun night. One participant was so moved by the Youth Board’s involvement and dedication in this event that it created a special moment for Clare that night.

Stories like these are why Youth Board’s continuing to grow each year. In a world where language that misappropriates individuals with Down syndrome, the youth are here in communities making sure that’s put to rest and positivity is shared.

Did Those Stories Inspire You?
