April is National Volunteer Month. As a playhouse, we would usually send out gifts or cards to each of our volunteers demonstrating how much they mean to us. Sadly, this year COVID-19 has put a halt to such activities. Throughout the month, we <\/span>will use the Blog to highlight some of our amazing volunteers who are truly #<\/span>generationG<\/span> and give their #BestOfAll.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, Kelly is <\/span>the recipient for our <\/span>Above and Beyond Award for <\/span><\/b>Outstanding<\/span><\/b> Volunteerism<\/span><\/b> at our Gala. Kelly began her volunteering <\/span>journey<\/span> 2 years ago (April 2018)<\/span>. I remember that orientation well, as I was discussing my goal of introducing math 1-1 and <\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span> to the Playhouse sometime that year. Kelly <\/span>spoke to me after and said that she was interested in both <\/span>the<\/span> math and the <\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span> program, <\/span>as <\/span>she was a personal trainer and studied Math at College. <\/span>She sounded so enthusiastic and I knew we had her hooked!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From day 1, Kelly was motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic and became a huge part of the playhouse immediately. Kelly volunteered for anything and everything. <\/span>She became<\/span> a literacy <\/span>tutor<\/span> and helped start the Math pilot. <\/span>Since 2018, she has volunteered as a Literacy and math tutor, Teen <\/span>Tastic<\/span> Program Leader and our <\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span> Teen Leader.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>November<\/span> 2018, she joined a group of us at the National Leadership conference in Chicago. Kelly came along to learn more about our <\/span>brand-new<\/span> fitness and nutrition program that was to be rolled out. I remember sitting in that room with her as <\/span>she <\/span>said,<\/span> \u201cthis is so <\/span>great;<\/span> I have found my people\u201d<\/span>, she loved the <\/span>program<\/span> and we eventually rolled it out <\/span>in<\/span> Westchester at the beginning of 2019.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

November 2018 – National Conference in Chicago with the GiGiFIT crew!<\/p><\/div>\n

Kelly inspires and motivates everyone she meets, whether it is through fitness and <\/span>promoting<\/span> healthy lifestyles or whether is it her kind and loving nature ensuring that everyone is ok. This March, <\/span>we were all thrown a curve ball, when the world came to an abrupt halt, programs were suspended, we were <\/span>mandated<\/span> to stay at home <\/span>and <\/span>events<\/span> were cancelled or postponed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During our first week of being at home, Kelly <\/span>started<\/span> to contact her <\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span> participants via FaceTime to ensure they were all doing well and to motivate them to continue to exercise and practice their healthy livi<\/span>ng. We then started to offer virtual programs of Teen <\/span>Tastic<\/span>, <\/span>GiGiFIT<\/span> TEEN and Friends, Fun and Fitness (our family fitness program) – all of these are led by Kelly<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kelly, we are so thankful and appreciative that you walked into our volunteer orientation 2 years ago. Thank you so much for all that you do for <\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span> Playhouse Westchester.<\/span>\u00a0You are truly #GenerationG!<\/span><\/p>\n
