Violet Day!

We would like to share an outstanding story of Playhouse inspiration and what it really means to be Generation G.

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day.

Be Accepting.

Be Generous.

Be Kind.

On Wednesday, April 17th the Student Council from A. MacArthur Barr Middle School in Nanuet, NY organized a day of celebration in honor of one of our young participants – Violet.

Flyer to promote the event.

Violet is three years old and loves coming to our 3 & Under playgroup, all our events and really enjoys her literacy sessions with her tutor Katie.

During the student’s community service time, the whole school walked around the perimeter of the school grounds 3 times. The students wore purple and received pins and beads to wear in honor of people with Down syndrome. At this time, the students presented Violet with balloons and they honored her by reading their wishes for her continued success.

Prior to April 17th, every class watched a video about GiGi’s Playhouse Westchester and read articles about children with Down syndrome. What an amazing way to raise awareness about Down syndrome across the school.

In addition to raising awareness, celebrating Violet and exemplify #GenerationG they also held a bake sale. The students at A. MacArthur Barr Middle School raised an amazing $350 for our wonderful Playhouse! Thank you to each and every one of you especially the Student Council.

“Violet was loving every minute of it and so did my whole family! … It brought tears to my eyes to hear all those kind things they had to say.  You did a wonderful job and I am so proud to be part of this school community.  Thank you again for making it such a special day for my little girl, bringing awareness to others about Down Syndrome and raising money for GiGi’s Playhouse!” Violet’s mom, Claudia, summed up the whole day with her message to Kerry Taylor, the middle school’s Student Council Leader!

Violet says THANK YOU!

We are so thankful to our community for spreading awareness about Down syndrome and GiGi’s Playhouse Westchester and we couldn’t offer our FREE and purposeful programs without the support of all of YOU!
