World Down syndrome day (WDSD) was first observed in 2006 in many countries around the world. In December 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared March 21<sup>st<\/sup> World Down syndrome Day to raise awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome (<a href=\"https:\/\/dsamn.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/dsamn.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>This year marks the 13<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of WDSD!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Here are four ways to celebrate this amazing day:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/be-kind.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13034 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/be-kind.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a>Random acts of kindness:<\/strong> on WDSD, many families celebrate by completing random acts of kindness to raise awareness of the special day.\n<ul>\n<li>Hand out gift cards with notes about WDSD.<\/li>\n<li>Provide coffee or snacks for nurses at a local hospital<\/li>\n<li>Make a meal to deliver to local police or firefighters<\/li>\n<li>Send a special thank you to the teachers at your child\u2019s school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/gen-g.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13033 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/gen-g.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/gen-g.png 240w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/gen-g-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>Take the Generation G Pledge:<\/strong> to always be accepting, be kind and be generous!\n<ul>\n<li>I accept you as you are<\/li>\n<li>I choose to be better every day<\/li>\n<li>I will fight for you and have your back<\/li>\n<li>I will be generous with my time and my heart<\/li>\n<li>I will be heroic and speak up if someone needs help<\/li>\n<li>I will invite 21 people to join Generation G<\/li>\n<li>I will make Generation G a part of my life\n<ol>\n<li>Write a \u201cG\u201d inside a heart on the palm of your hand to show the world your pledge. Encourage friends, family, coworkers and students at your child\u2019s school to also take the pledge<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Rock your Socks!<\/strong> Encourage friends, family, classmates and coworkers to rock their silliest and most mismatched socks as a way of raising awareness for WDSD. You can purchase inexpensive brightly colored socks at Target for your family and friends.<a href=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/funky-socks-640x252.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13035 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/funky-socks-640x252-300x118.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/funky-socks-640x252-300x118.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/twincities\/files\/2018\/03\/funky-socks-640x252.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>4. <strong>Join us at our WDSD\/5<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary party<\/strong> on 3\/21 at the Playhouse.
