Spotlight: Diane Husar, Author

Diane Callaghan Husar, the founder of GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park, who continues to volunteer AND participate as a parent at our Playhouse, is now a published author! Diane has written and self-published a memoir: Missionaries, Mercenaries, and Misfits: A Woman, an Island, and Life’s Big Lessons. Her book was released on March 17th on Amazon, and we are so proud of her! Here, she shares a little bit about her journey in writing her first book.
The story that I share in my memoir, Missionaries, Mercenaries, and Misfits: A Woman, an Island, and Life’s Big Lessons, is from a chapter of my life that not many people know about, as it happened way back in my twenties. When I previously shared pieces of this adventure on my blog, “Everything is Copacetic,” I received a lot of positive feedback. That made me feel like I had a story to tell that people would actually want to read.
I believe that the four big life lessons I learned while living in Micronesia are actually lessons that can help people in all facets of their lives. Those lessons are:
1) Stop forcing it. If it’s meant to happen, it will happen.
2) Say yes far more than you say no.
3) Draw your line in the sand, and then honor it.
4) Believe deeply that something better awaits you.
I set out to write and publish a book, and I’m very proud that I accomplished that enormous life goal. In addition, I created my own author website with zero understanding about how to do that. With knowledge literally at our fingertips on the web, you can search and learn how to do anything. I’m so grateful for all the new skills I possess and am already hard at work on my next book!
Writing and sharing brings me so much joy. I love the entire process. And one of the most rewarding surprises is that former students of mine have reached out to share how much I continue to inspire them. That makes this teacher’s heart almost burst.
