Their guidance helped caregivers better understand how to navigate challenging behaviors using ABA techniques, empowering them with tools to support their loved ones with confidence and compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is ABA?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA is the application of the principles of learning (e.g., reinforcement, extinction) to areas of social significance (Baer, Wolf, &amp; Risley, 1968).\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA interventions are characterized by data-based decision making and empirical demonstrations of a functional relationship between changes in behavior and the intervention being implemented (Baer et al., 1968\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benefits of ABA\u00a0Therapy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scientifically based therapy that is deemed a medically necessary service\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Technicians work 1:1 with learners using a tiered model\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0The RBT implements programming and interventions specified by BCBA who provides supervision and parent support\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Reduces maladaptive behaviors by teaching more functional replacement behaviors\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0Teaches different skills\u00a0like: communication skills, social skills, independent living skills, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Common Myths&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA is only for children\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA is only for autism\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA aims to \u201ccure\u201d autism\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0ABA is only for reducing maladaptive behavior and teaching compliance\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA uses only punishment\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA uses bribes\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA teaches individuals to be robotic\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All ABA programs are the same\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ABA and Other Therapies&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA can be great in conjunction with other therapies\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Similarities and differences overlap with some skills targeted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABA sessions are more frequent and longer duration\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Coordination of care between providers is important to collaborate for best outcomes\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Appropriate Candidates&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who can benefit from ABA?\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anyone!\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is Behavior?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Behavior is the activity of living organisms (Cooper, Heron, &amp;
