New volunteer, Smrithi Ramachandran, attended volunteer orientation at the beginning of the summer and jumped in with both feet. She has lead almost every program, from LMNOP to Fantastic Friends and does so like a champ! Unfortunately for us, she will be heading back to Emory University at the end of the summer and plans to continue volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta. GiGi’s Atlanta- you a gaining a superstar. I reread Smrithi’s blog, What Does Being Different Really Mean. WOW! Such insight at an early age. I’m 72 now and it took years for me to get over the hurdle of being uncomfortable. The tipping point of breaking down this stereotype barrier was in seeing the individual; my grandson Louis was born with Down syndrome in 2008. He is an amazing and charismatic individual! Smrithi, your superb command of writing and relating your hands on experience brings to the masses that power you speak of. Without judgement you give permission and inspiration to go from denial or uncomfortable to being the best one can be. Emory, GiGi’s Atlanta, we all, are the better for your (our) voice. Big Love!
