Inaugural Golf Outing

Despite the unprecedented times, GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento’s Inaugural Golf Outing on October 3 was a sold-out event with overwhelming support from our amazing community! The event was held at Haggin Oaks Golf Course with over 100 players and 50 volunteers on a beautiful sunny day with happy faces all around.

We were shocked that we sold out the field a couple weeks before the tournament. We did not know how an event during COVID would be. On top of that, generous donations in the form of sponsorships and in-kind donations from all over the community kept coming in. Our sponsors included Niello BMW, Anrak Corporation, SmartRate Home Loans, Jane Johnson Speech Therapy, Fallen Pollen, Mikuni, and Tytanium Ideas, Inc., among many others.

We were overwhelmed by the support even before tournament day, but then to see how genuinely happy everyone was during and after the event was the icing on the cake. Players thoroughly enjoyed the scramble format, the on-course games and contests, and also participated in a virtual silent auction, adding to the event’s success. The media also covered the event and the excitement from everyone just shows how truly amazing the Down syndrome community is and how GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento will do wonders for our community.

Highlights

One of the highlights from the day was having self-advocates, Mia Siino, John Michael Crumley and Sofia Sanchez announce names at the first tee. Their contribution made it feel like an actual PGA golf tournament and maybe next year, we’ll even have our very own green jackets to give away to the winners! Another self-advocate, Brandon Garcia, not only played in the tournament but even won DC Solar’s longest marshmallow drive contest on the 17th tee box, scoring himself a pair of Apple AirPods!

Planning a golf tournament during COVID certainly had its unique challenges, but the Golf Outing committee did an incredible job planning and executing the event in order to stay in compliance with health guidelines while ensuring it would be a fun day for everyone. Each member of the committee played a critical role, and the success of this event was in large part due to their and our volunteers’ dedication and commitment to GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento. Lastly, we could not have pulled off an event like this during a pandemic without the unwavering support from our generous sponsors. Because of their support, we are this much closer to opening our doors.

Topping this year’s turnout and enthusiasm will be a big feat, but with our dedicated committee and amazing community, this event will be one you won’t want to miss in the years to come.
