“My week is brightened knowing that Jessica and I are not just reading together but building a friendship.”

“This is the day you begin to find the places inside your laughter and your lunches, your books, your travel and your stories, where every new friend has something a little like you—and something else so fabulously not quite like you at all.”   The Day You Begin    By Jacqueline Woodson

My first introduction to GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh was through an articulate, and vibrant young woman, Elizabeth. She exudes happiness and excitement about meeting new people and experiencing new activities. Because of Elizabeth I was able to see first-hand through her eyes what GiGi’s is all about. It is about love, acceptance and celebrating the uniqueness of everyone. Elizabeth loves music and demonstrates this with singing and dancing.

I wanted to know more and attended GiGi’s Gala. Wow! What a night of celebration! The stories that were told by parents, siblings, and volunteers inspired me to want to be a part of GiGi’s in some way. Currently I am volunteering as a literacy tutor for Jessica. She is simply delightful and so willing to work hard and persevere. My week is brightened knowing that Jessica and I are not just reading together but building a friendship.

I tip my hat to all who are a part of such an incredible place that sees the beauty in each individual and works in different capacities to make GiGi’s a reality for so many families in the Raleigh area.
