Please help us recognize Jordan Furosi as the Volunteer Spotlight for the month. Jordan is originally from San Jose, CA and is currently a student at Augustana college. He began volunteering at the Playhouse this past fall as part of as assignment\/project for a class. He is Communications Studies major, a wrestler and works part time at Media Link Inc. We asked Jordan a few questions about his experience volunteering and this is what he had to say.<\/p>\n

How did you hear about GiGi’s Playhouse?<\/b><\/p>\n

One of my classmates in my Senior Research Study class recommended me to look into GiGi\u2019s for my research.<\/p>\n

Why did you choose GiGi’s as a place to volunteer and are you volunteering for a specific reason? <\/b>I decided to focus on improving awareness of the abilities and gifts of individuals with special needs for research project, and wanted to find a place where I could get hands on experience. I worked with athletes with Down syndrome back in high school for football over the summer. I really enjoyed working with them and thought it was a fun experience. GiGi\u2019s was something similar but different, so I decided to give it a shot.<\/p>\n

What has your experience been here at the Playhouse?<\/b><\/p>\n

Nothing but fun. I am always excited on the days I get to come into GiGi\u2019s and experience the amazing environment and people that are there.<\/p>\n

What do you want others to know about volunteering at the Playhouse?<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not volunteer work, its volunteer fun! GiGi\u2019s has the mix of both service and fun and makes it hard to not enjoy yourself, while also creating a desire to continue volunteering.<\/p>\n

Tell us about your favorite moment\/experience while volunteering.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to choose just one favorite experience. The Halloween party at the Playhouse was a ton of fun and was a great opportunity to meet the wonderful people and families at GiGi\u2019s. The Thanksgiving dinner with the Fantastic Friends was also very fun. Having a water drinking and pie eating contest with Levi was a great experience full of laughs and smiles.<\/p>\n

Jordan has completed the project for his class but is still currently volunteering as a literacy tutor for the winter tutoring session. We hope to have him here for as long as he can stay.<\/p>\n
