Michaela was chosen as our recent Participant Spotlight.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This is her first time ever participating in one-on-one programs here at the Playhouse.<\/p>\n

She is participating in math tutoring with Ms. Margaret and speech with Ms. Ann. At the beginning of the fall session, she was a little unsure but each week she comes she is more aware of the routine and expectations.<\/p>\n

#Bestofall<\/a> She now walks in the front door and heads right to the learning lab!<\/p>\n

We are so proud of her, her participation, and the progress she is making. Keep up the good work Michaela!<\/p>\n

The Principles of our\u00a0<\/span>GiGi\u2019s<\/span> One-one-One Programs are to:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

  • Teach using materials that are\u00a0<\/span>meaningful and relevant<\/span><\/b>\u00a0to the student to maximize interest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Teach with a multi-sensory approach to\u00a0<\/span>build confidence and reinforce learning.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n
  • Teach students to \u202f<\/span>practice, \u202ftransfer\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/b>and\u202f\u00a0<\/span>generalize<\/span><\/b>\u202f newly learned skills.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Teach students to\u00a0<\/span>comprehend and use information gained<\/span><\/b>\u00a0from reading to apply to their real-world experiences.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    All tutoring resources are customized to each student\u2019s interests and abilities and are built based on the ways in which individuals with Down syndrome learn best. <\/span><\/b>We begin at a student\u2019s current ability and build from that point.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Purposeful progressions<\/span><\/b> lead to an increase of skills and self-confidence. Materials are also available to take home for reinforcement and practice in between lessons<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
