Some of us are thinking health and wellness, some of us want to learn or experience something new, while others want to spend more time with friends and family. This month, we have some suggestions of games you can play, while you are working on spending more time with your family.<\/h2>\n<h4>Elefun is a game with a motorized elephant blows nylon butterflies up into the air. Players try to catch them in their nets (or gather them up from off the floor). These are some skills you can practice:<\/h4>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12002 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/elefun-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/elefun-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/elefun-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/elefun.jpg 399w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>I can practice counting<\/strong>: After you have caught all the butterflies, take turns counting the butterflies in your nets. You can talk about concepts of \u201cmore\u201d and \u201cless\u201d also.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I can learn about colors<\/strong>: After you have caught all the butterflies, go through them and say their color. You can also have your child sort the butterflies by colors into the corresponding nets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I can learn basic concepts<\/strong>: You can practice \u201con\/off\u201d with your child by turning the Elefun game on and off, saying each action out loud as you do it. You can practice \u201cin\/out\u201d with your child using the butterflies and the nets. When the child catches a butterfly, say, \u201cThe butterfly is in your net.\u201d When the child takes the butterfly out of the net, say, \u201cbutterfly out.\u201d You can also target \u201cout\u201d when the butterflies come up the elephant\u2019s trunk (e.g., \u201cThe butterflies are coming out.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Crocodile Dentist is a fun turn taking game that you push down the crocodile\u2019s teeth without getting chomped. If the crocodile chomps you, you are out of the game. Keep going until there is only one person who has not been chomped and they are the winner! These are some skills you can practice:<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12001 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/crocodile-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/crocodile-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/crocodile-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gigisplayhouse.org\/quadcities\/files\/2018\/01\/crocodile.jpg 407w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>I can\u00a0take turns<\/strong>: Give directions to the child to \u201cpush down a tooth\u201d or \u201cpush in a tooth\u201d.\u00a0You can model the behavior\u00a0as needed.\u00a0After the child pushes down a tooth, celebrate and say, \u201cmy turn.\u201d\u00a0Push down one of the teeth. Next say, \u201cyour turn\u201d and encourage your child to\u00a0take a turn. If not, prompt the child with\u00a0\u201cpush in a tooth.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>I can\u00a0imitate sounds<\/strong>: Gain the child\u2019s attention by holding the\u00a0crocodile\u00a0next to your mouth. Model a target sound or word.\u00a0Every time your child practices his or her speech sounds, they can take a turn pushing down the teeth. Praise attempts at speech sound production.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I can\u00a0identify and\u00a0label body parts<\/strong>: Identify and\u00a0label different body parts with your child.\u00a0Point to a body part and say, \u201cLook at his teeth\u201d (include: eyes, nose, feet, tongue).\u00a0After, you can also practice labeling body parts on you and your\u00a0child.\u00a0You can say, \u201cShow me your teeth.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>I can\u00a0learn\u00a0basic concepts<\/strong>: Gain the child\u2019s attention by holding the crocodile next to your mouth.\u00a0Next tell your\u00a0child, \u201chis mouth is OPEN.\u201d\u00a0Make an \u201cO\u201d shape with your mouth and say, \u201cmy mouth is OPEN.\u201d\u00a0Prompt the child, \u201cShow me open.\u201d Encourage production of \u201copen\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Use the same procedure\u00a0for \u201cclose\u201d when the\u00a0crocodile\u2019s\u00a0mouth is closed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Try these out while you are spending time with your family.
