It’s Almost October!

It may be the beginning of August, and a lot of you are starting to think about the kids going back to school, but it will be October before we know it. You might ask, “What’s so special about October?” Well let me tell you. Here at GiGi’s Playhouse – Quad Cities, October is in our sights for several reasons.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, which brings a heightened awareness for Down syndrome to organizations and communities across the nation. We look forward to that time of year and all that it brings. There are events taking place here locally throughout the month. October 1st is a special date for us here in the Quad Cities. Not only is it our Playhouse’s birthday, it is also the date of our annual Superhero 5K Walk, 1 Mile Walk and Kids Dash for Down Syndrome. We will be celebrating 5 years and our Superheroes! We hope that you, your family and friends will be our Superheroes, and join us at the race. It is one of our biggest fundraisers and we count on your participation to make it successful. Our birthday celebration will be taking place later in the month, with a week long open house here at the Playhouse. We will be inviting families, volunteers, community members and business leaders to stop in and celebrate with us.

Also in October we will have GiGi’s Night with the Quad City Mallards and a Dine to Donate at Granite City. While these are smaller events compared to the race, they are fundraisers for the Playhouse, and we ask that you please join us if you can.

Does October seem too far away? You will be happy to know that between now and then we will have an End of Summer Family and Volunteer Celebration. All of our families and volunteers are invited to join us on August 21st and Prospect Park in Moline for a afternoon of food and fun. We will be recognizing all of the volunteers that have helped the Playhouse over the past year.

All of these special activities are in addition to our regularly scheduled programming, which is featured in the monthly newsletter, and goes out via email at the beginning of every month. You can also check the website calendar for dates, times, locations, etc. and our Facebook page is a great source for up-to-date announcements. Please remember to RSVP for programming and events. It helps us and the volunteers prepare and ensures enough materials for participants. The good news for you is that if you RSVP on the website you can choose to have a reminder sent to you prior to the event. We can all use reminders once in a while!

See you at the Playhouse and the Park!
