TUTORING FOR INDEPENDENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n

“When did you learn about money?<\/p>\n

How about time\u2026when did you understand time?<\/p>\n

With me, understanding money to buy what I wanted or save for something special just happened. \u00a0One day I accepted that Mom bought things for me but then I began to want things of my own choosing\u2026I wanted to buy it myself.<\/p>\n

Time was the same.\u00a0 Looking at the clock at school to see how much longer I had to be there or watching the clock to see when the cookies would come out of the oven\u2026learning about time just happened.<\/p>\n

I forgot who taught me how to buy something or who taught me how to read the clock but now it\u2019s hard to imagine my world without it.\u00a0\u00a0 Did you catch the key word in this last sentence\u2026TAUGHT.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our volunteer tutors teach this every day at GiGi\u2019s Playhouse.<\/strong>\u00a0 One child or young adult at a time, in ways they learned from our Math Tutoring program.\u00a0 We teach them and then they have the experience of seeing someone\u2019s face when they \u201cget it\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Tutoring MATH is tutoring INDEPENDENCE.<\/strong>\u00a0 A new opportunity to plan the day and to be ready.\u00a0 It means choosing something, counting your money to know if you have enough to buy it\u2026and then to buy it!<\/p>\n

Thank you<\/strong> to the those that teach our kids this independence.\u00a0 Thank you for giving 1 or 2 hours per week of your time so that they can learn about telling time.\u00a0 It is your one-on-one fun and practice that helps them \u201cget it\u201d.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Independence is taught<\/strong>…it\u2019s deliberate.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t just happen with our kids.<\/p>\n

It probably didn\u2019t just happen with us\u2026we just forgot.<\/p>\n

Something tells me Kaitlyn won\u2019t forget.<\/p>\n
